The Return Within

Reclaiming Presence and the Power to Lead

On paper, you’ve done everything right. You’re just not sure when it stopped feeling that way. The Return Within is not just a leadership book, though leaders will recognize themselves on every page. It is an invitation to come home to yourself — to coherence, the alignment of who you are on the inside and how you move through the world.

Here, Lisa Schmidt offers a living practice — Assess. Align. Embody. — not a path toward becoming someone new, but a return to who you have always been. Whether you lead a team of fifty or a household of three, these steps are available to support you in returning within.

You lead — at work, at home, in every room you walk into.

You hold it all together. You are respected, accomplished, and relied upon. The mental load compounds. The inner critic runs on repeat. Performance has become identity — and that identity has become exhausting.

You don't need to become someone new. You need to come back to who you've been all along.

The Return Within is the path home:

Quieting the inner critic without losing your edge

Releasing what was never truly yours to carry

Breaking the proving loop and reclaiming your power

Leading from presence rather than pressure — and discovering how much lighter leadership feels from there

Coherence is what happens when who you are on the inside matches how you move through the world. When a woman leads from that place — steady, clear, self-trusting — it changes more than how she leads. It changes how she lives.

Real power returns the moment performance stops carrying your identity.

About the Author

For more than two decades, Lisa has built brands, led teams, and tended to the inner work that sustains both. Those years of leadership and growth continue to shape everything she teaches.

Her work is rooted in the belief that leadership begins within, where results come from alignment and trust rather than force. She helps leaders move from performance to presence, reclaiming the power that was theirs all along.

Her perspective is shaped by what she has built and by what she has navigated — self-doubt, people-pleasing, over-responsibility, and years of deliberate inner work. From that experience, she has come to understand leadership not as a task, but as a way of being.

Through Lisa Schmidt Coaching, she partners with leaders and organizations to cultivate greater coherence, clarity, and trust — in how people lead, how teams work together, and how cultures take shape. Through coaching, speaking, and writing, she helps people return to steadiness, presence, and self-trust.

Lisa believes that when leaders lead from who they truly are, leadership becomes legacy — presence rippling outward into families, teams, communities, and the generations that follow.

She lives in Minnesota with her husband and three children.

The most courageous journey any of us will ever take is the path that leads within
